About

The patients in Ontario suffering from Endometriosis need better standards of care.

Our Mission

Our mission is to use the human voice – the patient voice – to advocate for better standards of care for those who are suffering from Endometriosis. Currently, we have a handful of Endometriosis specialists who are catering to a large population of patients. The care is siloed, the wait times are exceedingly long, and the patients deserve better. We are advocating for higher standards of care for those with Endometriosis. This approach should allow for more patients to be seen, by trained professionals, who are engaged with the government who is willing tofund projects and resources towards this debilitating disease.

Our History

Endometriosis is a disease in which tissue similar to the endometrium is found outside the uterus. This tissue can be found on many organs throughout the body, leading to chronic pain and bodily harm. Since this disease is largely impacted by estrogen levels, we are inclusive in our fight to include anyone who has the reproductive system that could be vulnerable to this disease. This disease affects 1 in 10 individuals who menstruate, globally. Currently we have ~4o Endometriosis specialists across the country to cater to this growing patient population. We have some of the best specialists here in the Nation’s Capital but they are at the mercy of hospital systems, siloed care, OR wait times and day-to-day capacity. We were approached by physicians to help use the patient voice in order to demonstrate the level of care obtained today, and fight for higher standards. The physicians are only able to fight so much, but the patient voice is loud. We formed Change for Endometriosis Ontario so that patients have a platform to begin speaking out. Why just Ontario? Because this is where we both live and happen to know the most about, politically. But we can only hope that the path we forge will invite others to work with us in parallel, within other provinces.
